Hollidaysburg Veterans Home resident Russell Stiffler clutches the hand of his daughter, Juna Stiffler, 75, of Ebensburg, before his 100th birthday celebration hosted by the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs at the facility on Tuesday. The two had not seen each other in about two years. Stiffler, born March 14, 1923, in Strongstown, spent most of his childhood and adult life in Seward, serving in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1944-46, and obtaining the rank of staff sergeant. After his service, he worked as a steel and ironworks laborer until retiring in 1977. Gov. Josh Shapiro sent a written birthday greeting and Stiffler received national, state and district citations from the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
