Two emus busted loose from a farm in Pennsylvania last week and spent a few days out on the lam.
Authorities managed to apprehend the emus not too long after their jail break, although finding them was apparently far easier than capturing them.
UPI reports how the two emus managed to escape from one Chuck Newlin’s farm in Reels Corner, Somerset County. The Somerset County Animal Response Team (CART) was immediately dispatched, and managed to snag one of the emus as the two were found hanging around a local road.
However, it was still one down, one to go.
CBS Local Pittsburgh continues to report that the other half of the pair managed to evade authorities upon its friend’s capture, leaving him hanging high and dry. CART saw the bright side in this, though, expressing the hopes via Facebook post that the loose emu would “find its own way home if it hears its buddy calling it.”
Doesn’t seem like that worked, unfortunately, as the emu just ended up getting caught a few days later, most likely completely ignoring its buddy’s cries.
“Both emus are home!” confirms an update to CART’s Facebook page upon the emu’s return. “Friends of the owner were able to capture the second one today. We are very happy they are both safe.
“Thank you to CART members who walked miles the past three days and to everyone who kept a lookout and called with sightings.”
As to how the emus got out, well, Yahoo! Sports details how that remains a mystery, although Newlin suspects that some nefarious type freed free them.
